The Dos and Don'ts of Mandarin & Mango Boutique Hotels

At the start of a new year, many of us like to plan our next summer holiday, so if you are considering a stay at our boutique hotels in the small village of Faralya on Turkey's beautiful Turquoise Coast, please allow us to take a couple of minutes of your time to tell you what to expect at Mandarin & Mango.

Don't expect the usual standard

There is nothing "standard" about Mandarin & Mango Boutique Hotels. In a world of bland, international chain hotels, we are proud to be different. From the hand-carved furnishings made from reclaimed wood to the colourful decorative touches, our hotel reflects the traditions and culture of our region, as well as the personalities of our friendly team. Furthermore, with just 16 rooms and two pool villas, we are small enough to create a truly personal atmosphere where we can get to know our guests as individuals, not room numbers, so don't think of it as staying in a standard hotel, but more as being guests in our home.

Do bring your loved one

With super-king-size four-poster beds in all our double rooms, as well as two-person Jacuzzis, our accommodation is perfect for romantic couples, so if you are looking for a venue for your honeymoon or anniversary, or simply wish to spend undisturbed quality time with your partner, we've got just the place for you. Of course, we also have some twin-bedded rooms for those planning to share their holiday with a dear friend instead.

Don't bring the children

The small size of our hotel and our unspoilt rural setting provide a wonderfully peaceful environment, and to preserve this tranquil ambience, we do operate an adults-only policy, with a minimum age of 12 years, unless you...

Do take over the whole place

The exception to the previous rule is groups booking one or both sections of our hotel in their entirety. If you are planning a special birthday celebration, a family reunion, a wedding or another occasion you would like to mark with friends in an exclusive setting, we can accommodate groups of between 12 and 40 people and arrange for you to have the exclusive use of Mandarin, Mango or both sections, depending on the size of your group and availability at the time of booking.

Don't forget your walking boots

We are situated in the rural hamlet of Faralya, surrounded by gloriously unspoilt countryside, so those who enjoy exploring on foot will find plenty of rewarding terrain right on our doorstep, from scenic coastal paths to challenging mountain treks. The Lycian Way, a well-signed long-distance hiking trail, runs right past our property, and for those who enjoy walking in company and wish to benefit from the expertise of a local guide, we arrange guided walking weeks at certain times during spring and autumn.

Do forget your worries

Mandarin & Mango are easily reached from the international airport at Dalaman, which has direct flights from all major UK and European airports as well as convenient connections via Istanbul for those travelling from further afield. And yet our secluded setting feels wonderfully removed from the stresses of the modern world, so pick your favourite spot by our pools or in our fragrant gardens, relax and unwind, lose yourself in a good book or just a day-dream, and feel your worries gradually floating away.

Do a little historical exploration

Then again, you may occasionally wish to drag yourself away from our idyllic retreat, for the region that surrounds us is full of fascinating sights to discover, from the ancient archaeological sites of Tlos, Pinara, Xanthos, Patara and Cadyanda to the atmospheric "ghost village" of Kayakoy - known as Levissi in ancient times - which bears witness to more recent history. Those keen to explore the area in depth may want to hire a car for at least part of their stay, but for those who prefer not to drive themselves we can also arrange private excursions with a driver.

Don't bother to have lunch

Our freshly prepared five-course dinners - inspired by regional recipes passed down through the generations and made using seasonal local ingredients - are always a highlight, so much so that our regular guests don't like to risk spoiling their appetite by eating too much during the day! Most find that our traditional Turkish breakfasts are more than sufficient to see you through the day, but in case you need a little energy boost later in the day, our excellent-value half-board option also includes complimentary tea with sweet and savoury pastries in the afternoon.

Do choose your favourite room

Whilst all our guestrooms are spacious and equipped to the same high standard, some are extra special, such as the penthouse room in Mango with its panoramic terrace or our semi-detached pool villas with their own private swimming pools and gardens. And of course even our standard rooms vary a little in terms of layout and outlook, so pictures of each room are shown on our website. If you have any particular preferences, please let us know, and we will do our best to reserve your favourite room for you - always subject to availability at the time of booking, of course.

Which brings us to the next point: with only 18 rooms, we can fill up quickly on popular dates, and the earlier you book, the better the chance of securing your preferred room for your chosen dates!

Do as you please

If the idea of a dos-and-don'ts list strikes you as a little prescriptive, don't worry - it's really just meant as a bit of fun! Our philosophy at Mandarin & Mango is that we want our guests to feel thoroughly at home and at ease, so everything is very informal, with no hint of stuffiness or pretension. Whether you prefer an activity-filled holiday or a time of pure relaxation, you can do as much or as little as you please. Just make yourself comfortable and let us do the rest.
